Date: Tuesday, 30 March, 2010
Time: 9:30 - 16:00
Location: Palace Hotel, Oxford Street, Manchester, M60 7HA

to find out more and share good practice around Neighbours Day
Grants implemented by the City of Manchester Council and
Neighbourhood Agreements piloted by Oldham Council.
Session 1 - Neighbours Day
Manchester Neighbours Day takes place at the end of May in line
with other European countries. The council invites local
communities to bid for up to £200 to encourage neighbours to meet
and get to know each other through street parties, fun days or
events. The grant aims to strengthen social capital and
cohesion through bring people together.
Session 2 - Neighbourhood Charters
Oldham's Neighbourhood Agreements have been nationally
recognised as good practice and were developed between residents
and a range of agencies which has improved the target area. A
street monitoring system has also been implemented whereby
residents actively assess their own area.
Expected outcomes:
The event will support authorities wishing to run a Neighbours
Day Grant program or develop a Neighbourhood Agreement.
The event will demonstrate how Neighbour's Day and Neighbourhood
Agreements contribute to the following National Indicators:
NI1 - Percentage of people who believe people from different
backgrounds get on well together in their local area
NI2 - Percentage of people who feel that they belong to their
neighbourhood
NI4 - Percentage of people who feel they can influence decisions
in their locality;
NI5 - Overall/general satisfaction with local area;
NI6 - Participation in regular volunteering
