The savings to be made by local authorities from great use of the WWW are well documented -each contact and transaction with government switched online could generate savings of between £3.30 and £12. There are an estimated 1.8 billion contacts with public services every year of which only about 20% are currently online  Social Media offers an additional opportunity to operate more efficiently and effectively using less resource.  In the areas of informing citizens, reporting problems, campaigning and enhancing democracy the new social media tools of YouTube, Twitter, Blogs and other mobile technologies have a crucial role to play in delivering more for less.  Using both presentations and interactive sessions,  the event will present technical options, case studies and innovative ideas designed to challenge the ways local authorities deliver their services and provide the information necessary to take the transformation agenda forward.

Who should attend: The event will be of interest to all those within Local Authorities with the responsibility for identifying, designing, building and implementing Social Media resources in order to deliver more to citizens with less resource.

Confirmed speakers are:

  • Liz Azyan, LGEO research
  • Lynne Shackley, ICO
  • Representative from the IDeA CoP
