Sector Led Improvement Event 31 October 2011
07 November 2011
On 31st October, a joint event between the NWIEP and
LGA took place to discuss 'taking the lead' on Sector Led
Improvement.
The event had an attendance of over 80 people and brought
together individuals from local government, health, fire and police
covering the whole of the North West, as well as Peers and officers
from the LGA.
Cllr Peter Goldsworthy, NWIEP Chair, welcomed and gave an
introduction on what it was hoped the event could achieve.
Presentations were given by:
- Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Deputy Chair, Innovation and Improvement
Board, LGA, who gave an overview of not only the local government's
approach to sector led regulation and improvement, but also
informed what LGA could offer in support of this.
- Liz McQue, Chief Executive, NW Employers and Lead Chief
Executive for the NW Improvement Network, and Phil Swan, Director,
NWEGG and Programme Manager for the NW Efficiency Network, jointly
gave an overview of the North West's approach to Improvement and
Regulation, which focussed on suggested core principles for
consultation on what is important to achieve the results being
asked. To view the presentations

Stimulating roundtable discussions took place which started the
conversation about how the region takes forward the sector led
improvement and regulation programme with the assistance of the LGA
offer and the future aspirations for the North West region.
These were then compiled and fed back to the group. It was
clear to see from the feedback provided by the facilitators that
most people were thinking on similar lines. To view the notes

The event was also filmed and can be viewed on the

The next chapter in the conversation will take place on the 09
January 2012, when Sir Merrick Cockell, Chair of the LGA will be in
the North West to engage with key thinkers and decision makers to
move the discussion onto the next stage. The aim is to have a clear
focus and direction for sector led work in the North West by March
2012
