Comprehensive Area Assessment
Following on from the government White Paper on public sector
reform, Strong
and Prosperous Communities (2006), the Local
Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 set
out the new local performance framework which was key in the
development of the Comprehensive Area Assessments (CAA).
The CAA is a new way of assessing local public services in
England that examines how well councils and other service providers
(e.g. NHS, Fire and Rescue, Police) work together to meet the needs
of the public. The first results are available on the new Oneplace website which was
launched on 9th December and brings together assessment information
on all services in one place for the public to explore.
The CAA was developed, and is being delivered, by the main
public inspectorates:
- Audit Commission
- Care Quality Commission
- HM Inspectorate of Constabulary
- HM Inspectorate of Prisons
- HM Inspectorate of Probation
- Ofsted.
NWIEP has brought together the opinions of key partners across
the north west, including the Audit Commission and Government
Office North West (GONW), in the NWIEP NOW! CAA Special.
